About Inlays

What is an inlay?

An inlay is any selected object that is integrated into the concrete. Common inlays include:

  • Shells
  • Broken glass
  • Precious stones
  • Metal objects

What can you do with it?

Because concrete is a liquid, it is easy to incorporate other materials to create beautiful one of a kind designs. The possibilities are endless. You can:

  • Use stained glass and wood to create one-of-a-kind mosaics.
  • Hand-picked aggregate (various rocks) to emphasize the beauty of the stone, which is revealed as the surface of the concrete is ground. The aggregate can even be applied to create specific patterns.
  • Create personal narratives by integrating memorabilia or keepsakes. This can include any small three dimensional object … for example a recent customer included a few of her daughters small toys in the drip edge of her counter top. The memorabilia is cast in resin and appear asnlittle “windows” in the concrete.
